We are a Reconciling Congregation.

That means we are a part of the Reconciling Ministries Network.  We welcome ALL persons, including them in leadership, worship, membership, and fellowship. We oppose the recent decisions of the United Methodist General Conference (2019) in forcing LGBTQIA+ persons to be less than their genuine selves in life and in the life of the United Methodist Church.

United Methodists base our polity and theology on the work of John Wesley, who considered that the world was his parish.  Wesley was committed to sharing the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ to all people through a deeply inbedded lens of Grace. We understand that life is not clear cut and simple. Instead, we use Scripture, Reason, Tradition, and Experience to discover and explore our faith as we grow and mature as disciples in Christ.  Our church tries to share that message that faith must be approached holistically, and that none of these elements can be overlooked.

We also take seriously the idea that the church is for all people.  As our sign says, "Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors." Hospitality, Peace, and Grace are welcome here and extended here.

We try to live that every day, not just on Sunday mornings--because what good is a faith that is trapped in a building?

First United Methodist Church (FUMC) is also connected to United Methodist Churches everywhere.  We are part of the Cooperative Ministry in the San Luis Valley; the Trinity District in the Mountain Sky Conference (Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, and one congregation in Idaho), which is a part of the Western Jurisdiction (the rocky states to the coast).

We are a church that is proud of our past, but trying to meet the challenges of the 21st century.  We hope you will come join us on that journey!

Grace and Peace to you,

Reverend Amber Mitts

DIRECTIONS TO THE CHURCH-Where we are

2005 Mullins Ave
Alamosa CO 81101

719-589-2243

The church is at the intersection of First Street, Murphy and Mullins. It is about 1 block west of the hospital.

Coming from either the west or east, the easiest way to locate the church is to get on First Street, turn north on Victoria Avenue, and then take an immediate turn right (east) on First Street.  Go east a short way, and turn north on Murphy Drive and you will immediately see the church.

If you turn north on Victoria and miss the turn on First, just go one block and turn right on Mullins Ave, and you will also see the church.
